DIGITAL NEWS: (Workshop) After Effects Workshop

Today, we had an After Effects workshop with Ferg. This is the first time I've ever used After Effects so it was interesting to me to see where all the features and effects were. We focused on how to replace green screens with a background image. We did this using Keylight.

Firstly, we had to change the 'Screen Colour' to green using the colour dropper tool. After this we changed the setting to 'Screen Matte' - making the image a white silhouette with a black background. This then allowed us to adjust the settings to ensure a crisp green screen image.

I changed the clip back and clip white settings to make the contrast of the image better.

This ensured that none of the green screen background would be visible when the artificial background was put in. We also learned how to change the scale and position of the presenter so that she could be moved around the frame.

After this, we learned how to put text over the image using a Luma Key. This involved creating text in photoshop (red text over a white background), then importing it into Premiere Pro, applying the Luma Key and adjusting the settings to make the white transparent and the red opaque.

Learning Outcomes:

- learnt how to use After Effects and apply effects such as Keylight
- learnt how to use Keylight to change the green screen of a video
- learnt how to adjust Keylight to give the best result of the green screen
- learnt how to put text over an image using Luma Key
