DIGITAL NEWS: (Pre Production) Location Recces & Risk Assessments

Broadditch Farm Recce and Risk Assessment

Broadditch Farm seems like the perfect location, it is set back off the road so there shouldn't be a lot of traffic to contend with. We do have to be careful of cars moving around on site as there is an on site car park, however, this space is only small so the cars should be travelling slowly. To minimise this risk we will have someone watching out for cars or other traffic whilst we are filming.

The roads on the farm are made from gravel, we need to be careful that we don't trip over this and that our interviewee doesn't trip over this as well. We should map out any movement before filming to ensure no one trips over. We should also be careful that no gravel gets kick up at the camera, again this risk can be minimised by mapping out any movement beforehand.

There will be a wire from the camera to the microphone during the interview. People should be made aware of these wires to ensure they do not trip over and injure themselves or damage the equipment.

As this is mainly an outside location, we need to be mindful of the weather. If it is raining, we should wait for the rain to pass or find a sheltered location as to not damage the equipment.

Melissa filled out the risk assessment for this location, signed it and got it signed by Helen. The risks for this location were very minimal and can be prevented with the outlined precautions put in place.

The House Recce and Risk Assessment

For the house location we just need to be careful of wires covering the ground and any other trip hazards. Any moving shots need to be planned out before using the equipment so that we can ensure our own safety and the safety of the kit. We need to make sure that any filming doesn't block fire exists and doesn't put anyone's safety at risk. This should be no issue as were just filming some stationary presenting shots with Jason behind the bar and Alex in front of a wall, as well as some shots of Aidan drinking. We do plan on cooking a fry up as one of our hangover cures - we can not leave this unattended as this is a fire risk - however, we need to film the fry up so there is no risk of leaving it unattended.

This risk assessment was signed as it is very low risk.
