DIGITAL NEWS: (Pre Production) Our New Idea & Getting In Touch with Contributors

After dropping our e cigarette story, we needed to find a new story for our live section. Since Halloween is approaching, Helen suggested we look into that area and myths surrounding Halloween.

However, none of the myths we found seemed to have any element of fact to them at all, which would make it difficult to come up with an interesting, informative (yet enjoyable) story. Each of us decided to go away and research other potential stories regarding Halloween (and any other relevant topics if we could think of any). On my way home, I passed Broadditch farm which had banners outside advertising their annual Broadwitch Hauntfest. I made note of this idea and pitched it to the rest of the group - we all thought it would be a good idea as it gives us an event and location to go to - making it perfect as a live story.

As a group we decided that we would interview someone who owns the farm / organises the Halloween attractions about their annual Hauntfest. This would include questions such as: What is the Hauntfest? How long has it been running? etc. We then thought we could quiz them on a few myths and facts about Halloween - to bring in the theme of our news channel. We would split the interview 50:50 so that 1 minute was spent on the interview with them about the Hauntfest and 1 minute was spent on the multiple choice quiz.

I attempted to contact Broadditch Farm by phone but failed to get through every time. I noticed they also had a couple of email addresses on their website so thought I might as well give them a go too (even though it is not as ideal as getting them on the phone). I got a response on the same day. The date I suggested (Friday 13th - their opening night) didn't fit well with them so instead they suggested the following week would be a better option. I suggested Monday so that we could visit them fresh after opening - which they agreed to.
