DIGITAL NEWS: (Pre Production) Our Developed Idea & Feedback with Helen

After our last meeting with Jo, we felt like we had a much clearer sense of direction for our project.

Our live section was going to be the e cigarette story - talking to someone who runs a vape bar and also Jason's friend who makes his own liquid for e cigarettes. In this story we would explore the health benefits and risks of using e cigarettes and whether they are better than real cigarettes whilst also looking at the pros and cons of making your own liquid for e cigarettes. This gives us a lot to talk about which will hopefully keep the 2 minute live section enticing and engaging for the audience. The vape bar is quite a trendy, modern setting and Jason's friend is quite young - making the location and interview subject relatable for the target audience.

We are still set on exploring hangover cures for our pre recorded package. Our plan is to put different hangover cures to the test on different test subjects. Each person will drink the same amount and be given a hangover cure to try the next morning. They will then review how they feel and whether they believe the hangover cure worked. We also had a slightly alternative version of this idea: have one test subject and get them to try a different hangover cure everyday and then review them all at the end.

Alex is going to be our presenter who will introduce the show and the different sections. I am going to present the pre recorded package and we are going to find an actor to present the live section as this is more pressured and needs to be done in one take (so requires someone who is confident in front of the camera).

Feedback from Helen:

- find out the science a hangover - why will these hangover cures then work? What is the theory behind hangover cures?

- instead of test subject actually getting drunk, make them act drunk
- presenter can also act as a scientist - to explain the different hangover cures
- need to have clear story - what is the hangover cure? -> Why will it work? -> Put it to the test. -> Did it work?
- need to have good characters - someone who is willing to go along with whatever we throw at them and is relatable to our target audience

Helen asked us to consider what new information the audience are left with and what we are trying to say through the package. She also recommended that we start the package with a question which is answered by the end of the package through the material that is shown.

- Helen suggested we find a different topic for our live package as it doesn't seem to fit with the tone of our pre recorded package.
- We could either make our pre recorded package more serious to fit with the more serious & informative tone of the live section or change the live section to fit with the more comical tone of the pre recorded package.
- Since were set on making a comical production, we will drop the e cigarette story and find a new topic for our live section.
- Helen suggested we look for things themed around the month of October so that they are relevant - she pointed us in the direction of looking at Halloween myths. We will research this area to come up with a new story.
